A time to give, a time to gather

NOVEMBER 23, 2016

We are thrilled to report that we have raised over $2000 since we began our post-election fundraiser. Thank you for supporting Collection and these organizations in these extraordinary and challenging times!

From November 23rd through November 29th, please enjoy 15% off our vintage inventory. We will continue our commitment to donating 15% of each sale to non profit organizations working to maintain a peaceful, just world for all.

Please find opportunities to gather with us at Collection on our events page. Come to shop, come to kvetch, or just come for a hug. We're so grateful to know each one of you.

the presidential election: a response

november 9, 2016

Many of us feel helpless and hopeless in the wake of the presidential election. We at Collection accept that Donald Trump is the president-elect of the United States, but we do not accept his proposed agenda and policies.

Collection is a non-partisan for-profit company, but one with core values that include championing women, fighting for racial equality, advocating for the rights of immigrants and the LGBTQ community, respecting our environment, and practicing nonviolence. With those core values in mind, we have chosen to use our business as a platform for those who share our values to engage in peaceful acts of protest against a presidential agenda that runs counter to our beliefs.

From November 9, 2016 through December 31, 2016 Collection will donate 15% of sales to causes that support our stated values. We have chosen these specific organizations because our research has shown that they have the greatest influence in Washington based on dollars spent. Our customers may select a specific cause they would like to support with their purchase, or entrust Collection to choose a cause for them. The organizations we will support through a percentage of our sales are:

Planned Parenthood

Emily's List

Americans for Responsible Solutions

Akonadi Foundation

Human Rights Campaign (LGBTQ)

Environment America

In addition to raising money, Collection will be publishing information on our website in the coming weeks and months on the aforementioned issues and how to ensure our elected officials, regardless of their party affiliation, hear our voice. The personal is political, the private is political. We invite you to join us.

Image: Notes from the Second Year: Women’s Liberation, which published "The Personal Is Political" an essay by Carol Hanisch in 1970. From Wikipedia: the phrase "the personal is political" was a rallying slogan in second wave feminism and non-white feminism and is not singularly attributed to any author, but rather to the millions of women who worked to challenge male dominated society in the 1960s and 1970s.
